CCC and SMBC launched “Olive LOUNGE” in April 2024, aiming to build one of Japan’s largest integrated payment and point ecosystems. Based on SHARE LOUNGE, the Shimotakaido location is conceived as a space surrounded by greenery and books, offering 63 seats for working, relaxing, or enjoying a drink, and functioning as a hub for local interaction at the station front. The project explores a new model for a station-front bank beyond conventional convenience. While online banking has reduced in-person visits, demand for ATMs, consultations, and safe deposit services remains. Previously closed after 3 PM, the space is reconfigured for full-day use by placing a café and ATM on the first floor, and banking services with SHARE LOUNGE on the second. The design reinterprets the building’s existing architectural character, especially the circular form expressed in its exterior, transforming it into a central spatial element. A cylindrical volume at the entrance organizes circulation, encourages people to stay, and connects visually to the ATM and upper floor. Constructed with steel square pipes, it functions as a gridded shelving system, with sofa seating inside and counter seating outside, set within an olive green-toned interior. On the second floor, the space converts entirely into a lounge after banking hours. A variety of seating types—face-to-face tables, semi-private booths, and counters—provide different levels of proximity and privacy. Layered enclosure at a height of 1350mm creates a comfortable sense of distance, while a soft gradation of light and shadow establishes a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
